'Hempcrete' is eco-friendly, regulations need to ease up | ABC News

Tasmania’s only hemp stalk processing factory is developing “hempcrete” products for a major development in Hobart. The uncommon building material is highly insulating, non-combustible, and has a low carbon footprint. Tasmania’s industrial hemp industry is looking to Europe and North America, where the product is more popular, to understand legislative and market issues. Some in the industry are calling for more relaxed regulation for the product, saying restrictions amount to a “missed opportunity” to enter a lucrative market.
