Vircura is a plant-based technology company researching, cultivating, processing and manufacturing industrial hemp and other plant-based products to improve health, wellbeing and sustainability. Vircura is the first company in South Australia to bring together the hemp growers and hemp processing capability; then use the product to develop new and innovative products to be used predominantly in the construction and building industry.
Vircura works with local farmers to grow hemp. After harvest, the hemp biomass is transported to Vircura for processing using a hemp processor that can produce four different products: hurd, fibre, fines and hemp dust, all of which have uses in a range of applications ranging from building and construction materials, to textiles and bio-plastics.
