We are building a house in Jan Juc, and we are building all the walls out of hemp. There are many great things about hemp I won’t go into other than saying it sequesters carbon from the atmosphere.
Why am I telling you this? Well lots of people are interested in hemp for many reasons and we are having volunteers come and build our house walls with us.
What does it look like if you turn up? The hemp gets mixed with water and lime and poured into squishy buckets about the size of a milk crate. Buckets get brought around and tipped into the 300mm cavities that will become our walls. Unlike rammed earth, there is no ramming, only gentle tamping. So, if you can pick up and tip a bucket you are qualified and welcome. You might also go for a walk on the cliff tops which are 600m away or head out for a surf.
We are welcoming people from Tuesday 27th August. Mostly weekdays. If we do a weekend session, we will put something out over social media and hope it reaches you.

If we know people are coming, we will put on food for volunteers. You just need to bring long sleeves and gloves.
