Sponsor a Video
Hempcrete in Australia

Background

I’ve recently filmed a series of interviews and house visits at Narara Ecovillage, capturing stories from 4 hempcrete homeowners. Each participant kindly welcomed me into their homes, and I now have the footage to produce 4 episodes of Hempcrete in Australia for my YouTube channel.

These videos will showcase the lived experience of hempcrete homes, promote sustainable building, and add to the growing body of resources available to the public through YouTube, the Hemp Building Directory (HBD) and other supporting channels/platforms.

I live in Sydney, Redfern as a single dad. My daughter and I are happy in our local community (great public highschool, a few family members and lots of friends), but the reality is that rent is high and I need to balance sustainability projects with paid work to provide for us. This isn’t a sob story, it’s simply the practical reality of trying to sustain mission-driven work alongside life responsibilities.

The Challenge

Editing these episodes is the next step. Each video realistically represents $1000+ worth of production value. Importantly, the cost to me is the opportunity cost: time spent editing is time I can’t spend on paid work that directly supports my daughter and I. I’ve already donated a week of my time to the recent Narara Ecovillage podcast project and 1000s of hours to education and advocacy around hempcrete, and while I live for the opportunity to do this work, I need to find a model that makes this work sustainable.

I will do $3000 worth of (in-kind) work but I need just a bit of help to cover at least some of my time. If folks that were a bit better off than me could chip in a few $100 each then I could make the videos.

So here is the proposal…

Sponsorship Proposal

I am inviting participants, and potentially others who value this work, to contribute to the cost of editing through a simple sponsorship model:

  • Target: $1000 total to cover editing of the 4 Narara Ecovillage episodes.
    • Value $4000-$8000
  • Contribution model: A Stripe credit card payment link has been set up with a suggested amount of $200, but contributors can choose any amount above $10.
  • Acknowledgment: Sponsors can be formally thanked verbally in the videos, in the end credits, and in the accompanying HBD article, or remain anonymous if they prefer.
  • Transparency: I’ll receive notifications of contributions via Stripe and will keep a public tally alongside the article on the HBD website. (Please note, these are not donations, Environmentarian is not a charity.)

Why This Matters

Hempcrete is an extraordinary material with the potential to make building more sustainable across Australia. Homeowners at Narara have already taken inspiring steps, and together we can ensure these stories reach a wide audience. With around 1900 existing YouTube subscribers, this Directory website and its associated channels plus growing interest in natural building, this content is a powerful way to spread awareness.

By contributing, you’ll help ensure these videos are completed and shared widely. It’s an opportunity to directly support the promotion of hempcrete and sustainable building, while also enabling me to continue balancing mission-driven storytelling with the realities of supporting my family.

The value of this video cannot but understated. But a ball park is $6000-8000
