Monthly Newsletter

By Jeremy Thomas

Hi reader,

This month brings a strong mix of events you can attend in person or online, big-picture thinking, and industry progress.

On April 23 there is both the Permi Palace site tour by Envirotecture which marks a quiet milestone for hempcrete in urban Sydney and Joost Bakker heading an iHemp NSW webinar which will both bring important ideas around shaping the future with regenerative building.

Expressions of Interest are open to join the 2026 Jenolan Hemping Hands Experience (dates TBC May-June) where the innovative crank formwork system will be used. You can check out our article on how crank formwork + hempcrete blocks are helping push construction methods forward.

While Orbost’s transition from timber to hemp highlights a broader regional opportunity unfolding in Victoria.

Its been great to help people through this newsletter, our website directory and through 1 on 1 online chats. If you want more info or have questions please go ahead and Book a Chat!

I do a helluva lotta of unpaid mission driven work for the hemp building industry because I believe in it so much. But belief doesn't pay the bills. So if just a few people reading this could contribute it would mean a lot to me. Contribute here.

Joost Bakker to Headline iHemp NSW Webinar on Regenerative Building with Hemp

Famously described by The New York Times as “the poster boy of zero-waste living,” his work has consistently challenged how we consume, build and inhabit space. Bakker has long argued that waste is not inevitable, but a design flaw.

There are milestones that quietly signal a shift in an industry. The upcoming Permi Palace site tour, hosted by Envirotecture, is one of them.

For the Hemp Building Directory community, this is more than just a walk-through, it is a rare opportunity to see hempcrete in action, mid-install, in a dense urban context like Sydney.
