About X-Hemp Hemp Supplier
X-Hemp is a majority female-owned and 100% women-operated facility at the heart of Tasmania’s industrial hemp industry. We bridge the gap between local farmers and the construction sector by converting a combination of purpose-grown fibre crops and hemp stubble (previously burned off as a waste product) into high-performance building materials. Our mission is to provide sustainable and carbon-friendly hemp fibre alternatives across a range of sectors.
Processed hurd from the cannabis plant is the essential biomass component in hemp-lime construction. Our materials have already been used in dozens of residential builds and landmark commercial projects, including the University of Tasmania’s Forest Building (the largest commercial hempcrete project in the Southern Hemisphere) and the Patagonia Store in Hobart. Beyond construction materials, we also supply processed hemp for landscaping, specialty paper production and animal bedding, and will soon be selling hemp biochar.
Founded by Andi Lucas, X-Hemp is dedicated to building climate-resilient homes while supporting regional employment. By choosing X-Hemp, you are supporting a business grounded in true circular economy principles that benefits Tasmanian growers, our community, and delivers healthier homes for the future.

Hi Joel,
X-Hemp might be your best supplier. Check in with Andi and she’ll help you out.
We are in the process of designing a house in Cygnet Tasmania and I would love to know more about hempcrete.
Thanks regards
Hugh
Hi Hugh,
Start by watching these videos, especially the Queenslander Retrofit one which shows much of the process. The doing a work shop is very valuable for hands on experience and networking. Once that’s done a building designer to help refine the design and get it through council. Then a builder and licensed tradies. Often the owner builder can save heaps by doing the Hempcrete walls themselves. That’s the easy spiel of course there are many surmountable challenges along the way. Good luck!
